I read this in its entirety yesterday. I just couldn't stop. And really, it deserves the longest comment in the history of the universe, with all my favorite lines and things, but I can't reread right now to pick them all out. I'll give you the moments that stand out instead...
#1: It was really jarring to see Sam regarding Dean the way he did at the beginning, calling him Winchester, and all, that was extremely well-done. And when he became Dean, my heart and stomach completely clenched. That was seriously masterful.
#2: The hotels! Oh my God. The perfect use of humor to keep this from being too, too dark. And when Sam said he didn't understand why Dean did it, and Dean's face fell... because Dean's proud of it... Oh, Dean.
The moment when Dean took Sam's hand in front of John.... O.O Perfect.
They were such partners, and it was so... just... eee. :) And of course, that made the tension of the piece so very high when Sam's secret was coming closer and closer to the light. The tension of this piece was really amazing. I went into part 9 without any idea how you could possibly resolve this, though I knew that it had to be, because Sam had put so much of himself into his relationship with Dean, and oh, God, boys...
Speaking of that, the moment when Sam said "He has Dean, DEAN, and he still acts like this..." (I am not sure exactly where it is... or I'd quote it...) was so... amazing. I totally wibbled.
To be honest I'm surprised John lived through this, and I am not sure how I feel about that (which is not a comment on your writing or your decision, just on the fact that it happened), although if he didn't I expect it would be too much for this Dean, and possibly he could have ended up blaming Sam, even if it happened after the cabin scene.... Hmm.
I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of how awesome this is. I love what you did with Azazel. I loved the psychic kids--and you gave us more of them, and gave them backstory together, and ...eeeee. Azazel is one of my favorite villains of all time, since long before I was into SPN, so.... this made me so, so, so happy.
I've already recced it twice on spnstoryfinders, and I hope this sends droves of people to you. :)
This is one of my favorite SPN fics ever. It's amazing, and I can't believe how quickly you wrote it, either... Wow. Amazing job. I think you may be one of my heroes.
