The pain reminds him of all the pain he's causing by not having won yet.

It's really interesting what I notice abour people's writing with this meme...you, for example, use names a lot, i.e., many, many lines are identifiable by fandom at least.

And since this is a hard line...I'll add another one from that story if you need it :-)
